Heesun Choi is an accomplished violinist recognized for her profound artistry and exceptional versatility, spanning both the standard classical repertoire and historical performance. She completed her formal training at Seoul National University before pursuing advanced studies in Germany, where she earned her Diploma from the Robert Schumann Hochschule, Düsseldorf, and her Konzertexamen from the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen, completing both with the highest honors. During her tenure in Europe, Choi established herself as an orchestral leader, serving as concertmaster for both Theater Hagen and the Philharmonie Südwestfalen. Upon returning to South Korea, she continued her distinguished leadership as Principal First Violin for the Bucheon Philharmonic Orchestra. Now based in the United States, Choi maintains a vibrant performing career at the forefront of the early music scene, collaborating with the country’s premier historical performance ensembles, including Tesserae Baroque, Musica Angelica, and Bach Collegium San Diego. Alongside her active concert schedule, she extends her artistic leadership internationally as the Founder and CEO of the Fernweh Music Foundation, directing the Fernweh International Young Artists Competition (IYAC). Through this platform, she leverages her lifelong international expertise to mentor and elevate the next generation of musical talents.
